Word stress

Hi there, we have been working hard recently, haven't we? Well, anyway, as some of your told me that the aspect or learning English that you find most difficult is listening, here you will find a link to a very interesting site on "Word stress". Check all the information you will find there and after that record your voice with 3 examples of each topic, I mean. Choose 3 words which appear in the first topic "compound nouns", then 3 words of the topic "noun+ noun compunds" and so on. In the end you will have 12 words in total.

Sentence stress

Then, the second activity you will have to do is about "Sentence stress" and after you have read all the information and listen to all the examples that you find there, record the last sentence which appears right there, if you don't know which is the last sentence, here you have it:

"I am a proFESsional phoTOgrapher whose MAIN INterest is to TAKE SPEcial, BLACK and WHITE PHOtographs that exHIBit ABstract MEANings in their photoGRAPHic STRUCture."

It's important to follow the rules that are clearly explained in that website, so that you can sound as native- like as posible.

Send you two recordings to my mail by this Monday, so I have enough time to revise them and give you feedback.  See you and take care.

Hi dear students, welcome to my blog where you can practice, consolidate and have fun in English. The first thing you have to do is a video about giving advice using should and shouldn't.

  • You can make your video using a cell phone, webcam, video camera or any other electronic appliance.
  • You can upload you video on YouTube, twitter and send the link to my mail or just send the video, you can also bring it to class and share it using bluetooth or an usb memory.
  • The video has to be between 40 seconds to one minute and a half, it must be of an appropriate size and quality but make sure is not too big, so you can use a low resolution in your video.

Go to page 71 check the section of Writing and Speaking choose one of the problems and record yourself giving advice to the person's problem.

Make sure you use the vocabulary range according  to your level. Remember to use should and shouldn't to give advice and the expressions seen in class to support your point of view.

    • You have to send your video to my mail or take it to class by this Monday.
    See you and take care!

  • Use the vocabulary range and grammar structures seen in class, such as: linkers (but, because, so, and, etc) and time sequencers ( then, later, after that, etc.) to improve your video, add any interesting detail that makes your anecdote more interesting. Hi dear students! Are you ready for this week exams? I really hope so and I wish you the best of luck. sorry for not writing earlier, but I couldn't. Here you have the general guidelines to do your video and as I am writing until now, You will have until this Wednesday to hand in your video, remember that you can put it in dropbox or send it to my mail. anyway, here we go.

1. Make your video using your cell phone, camera, laptop or any other electronic appliance.
2. Avoid using high definition format, because this makes your video heavier and more difficult to handle
3. Your video must last between one or two minutes.
Go to page 67 in the section: Can you say this in English? and choose 2 of the 3 tasks which appear right there. The first one is about the use of conditionals, the second one is about making speculations about someone's past actions or criticize how someone acted in the past using should have. Finally, the last one is about why body language is important and explain what certain gestures indicate.

Examples:

1. I failed my exam. If I had studied harder, I wouldn't have failed my exam and if I hadn't failed my exam I wouldn't have been told off by my teacher. If I hadn't been told off by my teacher I wouldn't be feeling so down in the dumps now.

2. A: Did you see John at Teresa's party yesterday? B: John? It can't have been John, because he was sick at home, I saw him. A: Oh, really? I thought it was him, oh no! I shouldn't have said to his girlfriend that it was him, I think I put my foot on it. B: Yes, you are right, now she must be thinking that he was cheating on her and she must be devastated.

3. I think that one of the most important ways to express your feelings is by our body language. That's why it's important to know how to convey meaning and what kind of hand and arm gestures we have or need to use to express our feelings correctly. But why should we know this, because for example, imagine you have a job interview and you need to show that your are a relaxed and self-confident person, but if you start fidgeting with your arms or tapping the table with your fingers, you will show a completely different image of yourself.....

So as you can see, here you have some clear exmples on how to make your video more successfully.
See you and take care.
