Hi dear students. How are you feeling? stressed, sad, tired, excited? Thanks God today is Friday, and I hope you all have plans for tonight, at least to have a good time doing nothing but resting at home. Anyway, the activity you have to do is the following another video. The video is about the speaking activity we saw in class on page 21. You have to say if you agree or disagree with the sentences you have there. What you have to do is the following:

  • work in pairs but if you can't find a partner, work in trios.
  • Choose one sentence for each of you, one of you read the sentence and the other has to say if he/she agrees or disagrees, saying why, and giving a good example, or mentioning a life experience.
  • Example A: The Italians dress better than any other nationality, what do you think? B: Well, I don't agree at all, because there are many men all around the world who are smartly dressed although they are not Italians. On the other hand, I think the Italian men who are well dressed are those who can afford it because they are wealthy or famous people. For example, my father has always been smartly dressed because of his position at his job and he is Mexican.
  • As you can see from the above example, I used linking words, different tenses and the vocabulary range we have checked so far.
  • Then the other student does the same but with a different sentence.
  • Put your video in your dropbox by this Wednesday.
  • Make your video with any electrocnic appliance that you have at hand.
See you and take care!

Hi dear students,  what are you up to?, I hope you are ok and doing good things. Anyway, let's start working. What I want you to do is the following: look at the following words, record  your voice  giving the definitions of each of them but without saying the word. Example: my word is "extrovert" so I´m going to describe it in the following way. "It's the opposite of shy" or  "It's a word that describes a person who makes friends easily." Do you understand? I hope so. Make your recording using your cell phone, camera or any other electronic appliance.

Ready? here are your words:

1. cinema
2. ice cream
3. bedroom
4. painter
5. dictionary
6. kick
7. housewife
8. sad

When you finish, send your recording to my mail.  This has to be done by this Tuesday. My mail is marthaarelis23@yahoo.com.mx

See you and take care. Enjoy your weekend.

Hi my dear students, welcome to this new way to learn and practice English. Como esta es su primera vez que trabajan con un blog en inglés y son principiantes, estaré usando inglés y español para darles instrucciones. Es importante que se empiecen a familiarizar con términos como: "download" que es bajar. "go to the following link"   que significa ve al siguiente link, "you have to" que significa tienes que. Para que poco a poco vayamos usando inglés para comunicarnos, leernos y escribirnos.

Para empezar, tienen que bajar las siguientes imágenes que son de actividades complementarias de gramática y vocabulario. Las pueden guardar en sus documentos, o sólo imprimirlas, las contestan y las traen el próximo martes a clase ya contestadas para que demos retroalimentación y solucionemos dudas.

Verb to be

Verb to be negative and interrogative

Grammar Possessive adjectives

Recuerda, para imprimirlas sólo tienes que dar click derecho y guardar o sólo imprimir.

Saludos

Hi dear students. welcome to this new adventure of learning English using blogs. As you will discover, I'll ask you to do different things in order to help you practice or consolidate any thing related to learning English. As you can see, the name of my blog is "Sharing and Creating knowledge", because we all can learn from each other, and we can also share this knowledge.

I hope you find blogs powerful learning tools, and make the most out of them.

Let's start!

The first activity you have to do is a video. The video is about the speaking activity we saw in class called "reacting and asking for more information" page 7. What you have to do is the following:

  • work in pairs but if  you can't find a partner, work in trios.
  • ask and answer a couple of questions about some of the topics we discussed in class or any other you find interesting, shocking, amazing or embarrasing.
  • The purpose of this activity is that you both react properly when your ask for any kind of information. Remember to use the right expressions, rhythm, intonation,  and sentence stress to convey meaning. For example, if you are shocked by something your classmate has just told you, make sure you use expressions such as: Oh my gosh! Are you kidding me? or You must be kidding me, right? or you must be joking, that can´t be true. Another example: if you have just heard something sad or depressing, you should say something like: Oh! I know what you mean, I've been there. Poor you! you must be feeling terribly. And so on.
  • Be careful with your body language, because it also says a lot about what you mean.
  • You can make your video using your mobile, a camera, your laptop webcam or any other electronic appliance you want or you have at hand (tablets, maybe) Do not use high definition format, because it takes a lot of space. Your video must last between 1 or 2 min length as much.
  • You must send your video to my email or put it in dropbox if we already have a shared folder by this Monday.
  • Finally, remember to use the vocabulary range according to the level you are in.

By the way, if you want extra help on sentences stress, click on the link below, read and listen to the information you'll find there. You will be able to listen to 5 recordings and practice pronouncing them as many times as you want, and I hope that eventually, you improve your sentence stress and this helps you with your listening skill.

How are you doing dear students? How was your weekend? busy?, tiring? or exciting? Anyway, let's start working. As you told me a long time ago, listening is one of your major concerns, so here you have another activity about sentence stress and rhythm that has a lot to do with the topics we will be checking in class. Go to the following link, read and listen to the information and do the exercise you will find almost at the end, it has 3 sentences you have to read these sentences and record  them using your voice with your cell phone or whatever you want, but you also have to include the following 3 sentences you have below:

1. They're studying harder to get better grades.
2. Do you think you'll be able to repair them soon?
3. What time did Mandy say she was coming?

Send you voice recording to my mail, or in dropbox or take it to class by this Wednesday, this time you can transfer your files with a mini  Multi in one Memory Card Reader that I have, so don't worry, this time it will be easier.
